Cared for, then taught

Babies are cared for closely, by faces they come to know. Feeding, sleeping and changing follow the routine you set at home rather than an institutional one, and you hear how your child's day actually went — what they ate, how they slept, and how they were in themselves.

Play Group is a different thing, and we are deliberate about the difference. These children are past babyhood and ready to be taught, so they are taught — work set, marked and assessed at their own level. Nothing is pushed beyond what a child can manage, but nobody drifts. This is where the habit of working, finishing and being told honestly how it went begins.

Nursery

Where reading and confidence begin

Nursery is where reading is built, step by step and out loud. Children move from two-letter words to three, then on to longer and more complex ones, alongside sight words they learn to recognise instantly rather than sound out every time. They work through verbal, quantitative and critical reasoning — the exercises that sharpen how a young mind actually thinks — and they do arithmetic properly, not only counting. By the end of the stage we expect fluency: a child who reads aloud without fear and handles numbers with confidence.

None of it is left to a child's natural pace alone. It is taught deliberately, practised daily and checked. The social side gets the same attention — taking turns, naming feelings, settling a disagreement without an adult — because a child who can do those things arrives in Primary 1 ready to learn, while a child who cannot spends the year catching up on something nobody is timetabled to teach.

Primary

Rigorous, and still humane

Primary at SEADDO is academically demanding and we make no apology for it. Pupils are taught to work hard, mark their own errors and come back at a problem a second time. That habit, more than any single topic, is what carries them through secondary school.

Nobody leaves here simply because they have reached Primary 5 / Primary 6. Our benchmark is 90% overall and we work a child up to it rather than waving them through. That is how our pupils meet the Primary School Leaving Certificate prepared rather than hopeful, and it is why our leavers have, year after year, been among the leading pupils in the secondary schools they move on to.

Around the academic core sits a full programme of clubs, sport, music, diction, coding and responsibility. Responsibility is learned by being given, not by being described.

Beyond the classroom
